For five weeks, everyone in our school read Mary Knight's debut novel "Saving Wonder" together. At the end of November, the author visited Burns Middle School to share with us the power of words and what her book stands for.

Emma Kate read the book last year and shared it with Mrs. Muster because she like it so much. As Papaw says, "All it takes is one."

Every day for four weeks, teachers from all content areas read aloud a chapter. Everyone wanted to know if Curley and Jules would be able to save Red Hawk Mountain.

Sixth graders Draven and Chloe had Mrs. Knight autograph their copies of the book.

Some sixth-grade students wore their "I STAND" shirts to their session. The book and Mrs. Knight's presentation went perfectly with this year's school-wide theme.

On Thursday, December 1, members of the library leadership crew and library helpers ate lunch with Mrs. Knight to discuss "Saving Wonder" and other favorite books as well as being a writer a little more in depth.

In practical arts classes, students wrote poems and created collages to represent what they stand for. Several of these are now on display in the library windows.
